Yard Operative (FLT)
LT Driver / Yard Operative

💼 Job Type: Full-Time | Permanent
⏰ Hours:
Monday – Friday: 7:30am – 5:00pm
Saturdays: 1–2 per month on a rota, paid at time and a half
Breaks: Two 15-minute breaks and 30-minute unpaid lunch
The Role
We are recruiting an experienced FLT Driver / Yard Operative to join a busy timber and yard-based operation in Huddersfield. This is a hands-on role suited to someone who is comfortable working outdoors, operating forklifts, and supporting daily yard and dispatch activities.
You will play a key role in the safe movement, storage, and loading of timber products, as well as supporting general yard operations and deliveries.
Key Responsibilities
Operating a forklift truck safely within a busy yard environment
Loading and unloading timber products from wagons and vehicles
Moving stock within the yard and maintaining organised storage areas
Assisting with yard housekeeping to ensure a safe and tidy working environment
Supporting goods in and goods out activities
Assisting drivers and coordinating vehicle movements within the yard
Carrying out basic vehicle and FLT checks
Supporting manual handling tasks where required
Essential Requirements
Valid FLT licence (Counterbalance preferred)
Full UK driving licence (essential)
Previous experience working in a yard, timber, or outdoor industrial environment
Confident working outdoors in all weather conditions
Strong awareness of health & safety practices
Reliable, punctual, and team-oriented approach
Desirable (But Not Essential)
Experience working with timber products
Yard or warehouse experience
Knowledge of manual handling and load securing
